
In February 2020, I received a site visit from Huibie Jones, MD of ODI. During her visit, she congratulated me for my enrolment on the 20 Keys E-Learning programme. I must admit I felt a bit overwhelmed, as I haven’t participated in any learning programmes for the past year.
After her visit, weeks went by without me working on my assessments, until that day when I told myself this is the day that you will start with your 20 Keys E-learning programme. To my surprise, once I started with my assessments, I wanted to do more and more (I wanted to see what is going to happen next). After all my online quiz assessments were done, I needed to start with my practical workplace activity. I felt a bit lost, and I contacted Huibie and Johan for assistance; without any hesitation, they were there to assist me.
When you think 20 Keys, often what comes to mind is another checksheet (I admit, I did). While doing my practical workplace activity, I realised that this is not the case. I am very pleased now that I enrolled for the 20 Keys E-learning programme. Doing my Key 1 practical workplace activity was a great challenge. Not only did I learn a lot, but it also promoted teamwork at our lab, as all of us, in some way or another, had a role to play in creating a Model Workplace; this included colour coded labels (each department in Agriculture was given their own colour), hanging of labels, creating work table SOPs, and so much more, to improve the workflow.
I realised that once you get started, you don’t want to stop improving. This programme showed me how the 20 Keys checksheets actually help you in your area of work. Once you understand what the checksheet is all about, the journey to become word class really makes sense.
I am so excited that I was found competent on my 20 Keys E-learning submission. Thank you to my manager and team who assisted me in any way they could, and to the ODI team – I couldn’t have done it without all your SUPPORT!!!!
